THE STORY OF THE CREATION OF THE CRYSTAL FIRE ILLUMINATED

The original version of the Illuminated Tarot was painted in 1988-9, and I have been making hand made decks since that time. somewhere back in the late 1990's somebody gave me some paints called "interference colors" I refer to them as iridescents because they shimmer like butterfly wings. the have pulverized mica particles and come in several "colors" that create different color effects. I experimented with them and started adding them to the tarot decks I was making. I noticed that it made a difference as to which of the iridescents I started with as to the end results, so I would let people tell me their preferences as to emphasis. this process became even more so when I started adding glitters as well, in 2009. I could not use ALL the glitter colors in one deck so I asked again what are your favorite color ranges.

I do tend to listen to suggestions of what people want. That is how the whole glitter thing got going, somebody wanted her Star card to sparkle. Earlier this year, in 2011,a woman who already had been ordering from me and had a deck or two, said she wanted to see all fire colors. To do this I had to do a lot of "overpainting" on the cards, bringing the process of painting the iridescents to a new level. I started adding actual solid artist pigments as well, and totally changed some areas. Before I sent her that deck I made a print copy of it. The deck she has is and will remain totally unique, but then all of the decks I make with added painting and or glitter are unique.

Later the Fire deck copy became the basis of the Crystal Fire set. I again went and painted over the images, even further altering the colors. It was initiated by and order from another person who wanted to see Fire and Ice colors.  The paintings became even more developed, and this time I have kept those original paintings, they are what you see in the pictures shown here, and they are what I use to create the Crystal Fire decks.
