It has been suggested that these glassy looking tubes are hollow. I don't think they are transportation tubes, but rather a conduit possible for water. These tubes show up on many pictures, not always as well pronounced as in the following picture. The tubes are clearly ribbed, what might have to do with structural strength. Their width varies a lot, what makes their function as transportation tubes unlikely. Also take into account that the exposed tubes are covered by dust and sand that is blowing around. Only the sections that are high up are showing a bright reflection of the sunlight. The tubes seem to be form a network that lies just under the surface. Sporadically, erosion of the thin layers above the tubes have been eroded, exposing their existence.

These ribbed structures are found in image
M04-0029.
The image was taken on 1999-08-01, the location is 27.08 W, 39.12 N. The image width is 3.15 km and the image height is 12.29 km. The light coming from the lower left. The image below is an enlargement of the lower left corner of the image. They look like ribbed glassy tubes going to three different directions, exposed by erosion. Also strange is the bright reflection on the left tube. The distance from the bright reflection to the center where the tree tubes come together is about 3.5 km. The distance between the ribs is about 40 meters. Notice that the lower tube clearly disappears into the ground well below the surface.

The location is 37.22° latitude, 27.80° longitude. The image width is 3.09 km and the image height is 332.28 km. The light coming from the below.

Several
tubes connecting to each other, also disappearing below the surface
and appearing again. They are no dunes. They are solid structures, and
their width varies.

MOC Image M11-04220 Location: 15.65°W, 3.97°N . The image width is 1.11 km and the image height is 3.23 km. The light coming from the upper left. The diameter of the tubes is appr. 100 meters (300 feet) wide.

Upper right portion: you can clearly see that
the ribs are highly reflective. They are also very irregular.
The lower left section is interesting: the ribs seem to be paired, or at least to consist of two sections.
