Signs of an Ancient Civilization on Mars banner

Mars is an intriguing planet. Since we sent space probes to Mars, thousands and thousands of pictures of its surface have been taken.

Right away some 'anomalies' showed up, that is, patterns, signs, and structures that suggests an artificial origin. Initially scientist heavily denied that there was or has been water on Mars, precluding the possibility of life. In the mean time, many terrain features have been found that indicate that Mars once had an abundance of water, rivers and oceans. This is now generally accepted by scientist, although they still keep silent about intelligent life forms having developed on that planet. Microbes, yes, but anything more developed than that no. of course, we don't need the blessing of scientist to know that Mars once did have a highly advanced technological civilization. Although NASA never released all the pictures they have taken (Mars or other planets or moons), there still are enough pictures that show in detail some very intriguing features.

The strange structures on Mars are just one of my many interests. What I am presenting here are some very interesting features. There are a lot more that you can find on the Web.

THE MALIN SPACE SCIENCE SYSTEMS PHOTO RELEASE OF MAY 22, 2000

On May 22, 2000, 25,000 photos of Mars were released to the public. The Mars Orbiter Camera (MOC) Image Gallery chronicles one Mars year (687 earth days). These images were acquired by NASA's Mars Global Surveyor (MGS) orbiter from September 1997 through August 1999.

These un-processed images are the highest resolution images of Mars ever released to the public. NASA states: 'Many of the pictures have such high resolution that objects on the surface the size of a school bus can been seen.'

The Mars Orbiter Camera is part of the Mars Global Surveyor.

At these linked web pages are the original pictures in high resolution with the scientific data. A lot of people post pictures without any reference and just accept an copy other people's opinion. I have looked at the originals and found that some people didn't take the lighting conditions into account, thus seeing elevations where there were depressions.

The names given to the structure are only suggestive and do not tell anything about what they really are. They are highly suggestive of being artificial.

It is important to understand that the surface of the northern hemisphere of Mars is rather 'young'. Geological events with lava flow, mud flow, water flow and dust storms occurred on the northern surface after the catastrophic event that turned all of Mars into a dust bowl. In the southern hemisphere these geological events did not happen, as we still can see the many old craters that litter the landscape. In the northern hemisphere all the old craters have been covered over, together with most of the signs of ancient civilizations. Only the top of tall structures would still be visible, unless erosion uncovered them again.
