La Toyson d'Or, or the Golden Fleece is a reference to a Greek myth full of symbolism about the spiritual path. Greek mythology was often used by alchemists to express their vision.
The image above shows several alchemical symbols often used in manuscripts.
What interests us here is the center piece:
The text reads: "Visita interiora terrae rectificando invenies occultum lapidem", what means: "Visit the interior of the earth, and by rectifying, you will discover the hidden stone".
The earth is a well-used alchemical symbol for the body of the alchemist, also for your bodily consciousness. You have to visit the interior of your body, or bodily consciousness, like in meditation. Then you have to rectify this state of consciousness, as it is imperfect. Rectify means purification, because the whole alchemical process is nothing but purification of the mind. The you will discover what is hidden in you, that is your divine self, which is the stone, or the Stone of the Wise.
Here is text from an old alchemical book, mentioning the same phrase with two added words "veram medicinam", meaning "which is the true medicine".
