THE VERY BEGINNING

Here is how it all started. That's me, in the purple satin housecoat with sequins that my mother made for me.  She also made the other dress, worn by my little friend Judy. The year was somewhere around 1952. My love of costumes and dressing up has stayed with me, scroll down the page to see some of the creations that were to come.

The following items all were made by Carol in the 1960's

This dress and cape were made after acquiring three huge boxes of satins and taffetas from a warehouse in Seattle that was going out of business. They practically gave it all  to me, only $5 a box!  The boxes were over 3 ft. deep!

I had so much fabric I felt like I could do anything, so I let my imagination go. First I made the petal shapes, then I started to arrange them in layers.

I wore the dress and cape to the company Christmas party of Seattle  Magazine, where my photographer boyfriend worked. Thanks to him I have a record of some ofmy earlier work

I still have this dress and the cape that goes with it.

This cape is made from pieces of cotton, velveteen, and woolens. I was not intending it, but friends said they reminded them of Sergeant Pepper.

No, this is not my daughter, I don't have one. It is me when I was 24. I made the dress from an antique tie dyed velvet table throw, with fringes. The rest of the dress was burgundy velvet. This was one of my favorites and I wore it a lot to parties and dancing.

During my last semester in college for my  independent studies requirement I did a series of "paintings with fabric". I had a show of them in a gallery in downtown Seattle, and this one was sold. It is quite large, as I recall about four feet square.

Shown next are more of my original dresses, I sold quite a few of them in a boutique on University Avenue.
